Attachment & Relationship Counselling
in St. Albert & Edmonton

The relationships we have can shape how we see ourselves, trust others, and feel safe being close.

Sometimes we know we want healthy, connected relationships, but find ourselves repeating patterns that leave us feeling hurt, disconnected, anxious, or overwhelmed.

You may struggle with trust, fear of abandonment, difficulty setting boundaries, conflict, or feeling uncomfortable with emotional closeness. You may find yourself giving too much, pulling away, becoming anxious when someone feels distant, or wondering why the same relationship patterns keep happening.

These patterns often have a story. Understanding that story can be the beginning of change.

Understanding Attachment

Attachment refers to the ways we learn to connect with and relate to others. Our early experiences can influence how we experience trust, closeness, conflict, safety, and emotional connection later in life.

This doesn't mean your past determines your future.

It means that understanding your patterns can give you greater awareness, choice, and freedom in your relationships.

When Relationships Feel Difficult

You may recognize yourself in experiences such as:

  • Fear of rejection or abandonment

  • Difficulty trusting others

  • Becoming anxious when someone feels distant

  • Pulling away when relationships become emotionally close

  • Difficulty expressing your needs

  • People-pleasing or putting others' needs before your own

  • Difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries

  • Repeating unhealthy relationship patterns

  • Intense reactions during conflict

  • Feeling responsible for other people's emotions

  • Struggling with intimacy or vulnerability

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself within relationships

You may understand logically what you want from a relationship, but find that your emotions and reactions don't always follow. Therapy can help bridge that gap.

How Attachment & Relationship Counselling Can Help

Together, we can explore the patterns that show up in your relationships and develop new ways of responding.

Our work may include:

  • Understanding your attachment patterns

  • Exploring how past experiences influence current relationships

  • Developing healthier boundaries

  • Learning to communicate your needs

  • Building emotional regulation skills

  • Developing greater self-awareness and self-compassion

  • Understanding relationship triggers

  • Strengthening trust and connection

  • Creating healthier patterns of relating to yourself and others

The goal isn't to blame your past or change who you are.

It's to understand yourself well enough to create different choices in the present.

Relationships Begin With the
Relationship You Have With Yourself

Healthy relationships aren't about never experiencing conflict, insecurity, or difficult emotions.

They are about being able to recognize what is happening, communicate your needs, maintain healthy boundaries, and remain connected to yourself while connecting with someone else.

Attachment-informed counselling can help you develop that foundation.

You Can Create Different Relationship Patterns

You are not destined to repeat the relationships or patterns you've experienced in the past.

With greater awareness, support, and practice, it is possible to develop relationships that feel safer, healthier, and more authentic.

Guided Path Counselling provides attachment and relationship counselling for adults in St. Albert, Edmonton, and surrounding Alberta communities.

You don't have to understand everything before reaching out. We can explore it together.
